Andy Gibb - Shadow Dancing

Those who grew up in the 80's fell in love with this guy.  He was the good looking and sexiest of the GIBBS brothers! His trademark, he likes to bare his hairy chest.

Being the youngest of the Gibbs, he has always looked up to his brothers especially Barry, who natured Andy into becoming an artist in his own right. A high school dropout at the age of fifteen he decided to pursue his love for music.

Andy was independent financially. Some said he lived well because of his brothers. He was energetic, hardworking and of course talented. He put 110% in everything he did. Three singles from his first album went to #1 in Music Billboard. But much later he had doubts and felt insecure thinking that his brothers influence his success.

Kadang-kadang kalau kita tak bersyukur dengan pemberian Allah, macam tu la jadinya. Andy sepatutnya berterima kasih to Barry who created the path for his success.  So what? He should be grateful that he had the Bee Gee to back him up. There is nothing wrong for Andy to accept the reality that the success of his three brothers contributed to his own celebrity status.

Married at 18 and successful at an early age brought toll to Andy's career when drugs became his silent partner.  I may not understand the level of stress these artist fell into, but sure hell must have been extreme at certain point in their lives. But when things crash and fall apart,....he crumbled.  Depression hits him. Picking up back pieces was tough but Andy gave his shots. His mental weakness was what killed him.

The most memorable song that I first relate to Andy Gibb was Shadow Dancing. It was from his second album. Other hits includes Love is thicker than water, I just want to be your everything, and An everlasting love.

It was reported that in the late 80s Andy was free of cocaine but his depression remained. Quoting Robin Gibb, " paranoia associated with cocaine abuse shattered Andy's confidence and he became scared of people.".

He died due to inflammation of the heart muscle caused by the long cocaine abuse on 10 Mar 1988.

Lara Fabien - Je T'aime

Not every artist can command such a performance from an audience. Lara Fabien I salute you. Moment like this is the pinacle or the highlight in a career of an artist. If it was planned, they did it really well to manupulate and fool us,  the You Tube viewers. Fortunately this is not an act. When you have the whole audience singing to your song, the entire song, while you acted as the back-up vocals, its unbelievable. Go a head, if you can, name me another artist who can match the below audience performance.

I may not understand French language but memang sedap di dengar dalam versi ini. Bunyinya kena je. Btw Je T'aime means I love you, la.....

Alice Fredenham - My Funny Valentine

I suka sangat tengok video clip ni.  Alice Frendenham was a contestant in British Got Talent. She failed in her first attempt when her performance did not make any of the coach/mentor turn their seats in The Voice British version. Indeed in my opinion she did not rock the stage. She left that sense of...wanting more.

The transformation when she auditioned for British Got Talent showed off her raw talent. One word I could think off, is S U L T R Y. It gave me the goose bumps when I listened the melancholic soulfulness in her voice. Jazzy and I like. Just mesmerizing. Even though she did not make it to the finals, this is the kind of CD I will not hesitate to buy. It's a performance that one will not forget for a long time.I have nothing more to say. The judges said them all!!

If you dare to dream, many do come true...Love this video.

Alvin Anthons - Berdua

Wanna promote a local artist. He has cut 2 singles, Berdua and later followed by Sally. Both songs have strong Indonesian music flavor. I was indeed surprised when I found out, the tall, GQ looking guy is a Malaysian. Alvin is also a TV host, emcee, deejay, voice-over talent, and can now add singer to his list of accomplishments. He sure is em em em looking.....hehehe.

Nini Tsnobilazdze - Let Me Love You

I came across of this artist by chance while checking out the you tube a few days ago.

Nini Tsnobilazdze and grand finale contestant in Georgian version of The Voice. Petite with raspy voice. Sometimes I can hear the growl in Tina Turner, the powerful sultry voice in Anastasia, and the fire as high as Winehouses' beehive. You should see the reaction on all the team coaches when Nini performed Killing Me Softly!

(Courtesy from You Tube)

Also see her performed Private Dancer, Treat Her Like A Lady and Hallelujah. My favourite is the sexy and jazzy music arrangement of I Will Survive. With the Sax guy playing in the background,...what more can you ask for. It's out of this world. We were brought up by the upbeat version from Gloria Gaynor but this one,...very different, soft and full of characters. Wow, how much I miss those live band performance I frequented  regularly years ago namely Uncle Chilli's and Captain's Cabin.

Try also listening Let Me Love You featuring James Meparishvili on acoustic guitar. Her own piece. All I can say is, huhmmmmm......soothing.

Sting - Shape of My Heart

If I was given a choice of any artist in this world to serenade me and make me weak to my knees, it will always be Mr. Sting. The older Sting. The older he gets the more sexy I find him to be.  I guess this is what the saying, aging gracefully. So, I've said it....yes, I've got the hots for Sting. Check out the video.

I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart

He may play the jack of diamonds
He may lay the queen of spades
He may conceal a king in his hand
While the memory of it fades

Such a unique voice. One of a kind. Whenever I listen to this song I just can't take my eyes on him. Definitely well rehearsed but it looked as though their performance was impromptu.  Sting has recorded various musical style throughout his career, incorporating elements of jazz, reggae, classical and new age, just to name a few, into his music. Some of my favorite songs by Sting are, Rise and Fall, Shape of My Heart, Fragile, Dessert Rose, Russian and also An Englishman in New York. I would like to share the below video  performed by Cas Haley on Amercia Got Talent who sang a reggae version of Walking on the Moon, a song popularize by The Police.  Piers Morgan said he once saw Sting performed this song in a private function but Cas Haley performance outshine Sting! And I have to admit I love this reggae version.

Tevin Campbell - Can We Talk

He is said to be Quincy Jones' prodigy. Who doesn't know Quincy Jones. He is like a messiah when it comes to discovering new talents. It seems that he was the person responsible carving the pave for Tevin Campbell becoming an R&B artist. After the released of Tevin's 2nd album, I'm Ready in Fall of 93 this video clip was aired in MTV. I thought it was really pure, sweet and cute. This song is about high school kids first crush.  It fitted Tevin like a glove, perfect for him who was 16 years old and slowly maturing into adulthood.

Fall 93 semester was to be a very busy semester. My parents have been pressuring me about graduation. I'd registered for 5 classes and was planning for the Winter graduation. Unfortunately God had other plans for me. After 2 weeks of classes, I fell very sick and took the whole semester off due to a spine surgery and recovery period.

Well anyway, earlier in the semester I purchased a set of BOSE bookshelf speakers. It cost me USD340 and fitted it with my set of DENON CD player and an amplifier.  Yes! It sounded great.  In fact I still use the speakers until today in my bedroom.  Unfortunately my DENON set are sitting in the attic collecting dust.  The amp blew up sometime back for the second time due to my carelessness. I used a converter because voltage conversion from 110v to 220v. I mistakenly plugged it in, into the wrong socket and puff...it went dead! It is very difficult to locate a stereo shop which can fix this brand. The parts can be excessively expensive in Malaysia.

After the purchase I brought home my new speakers, I hooked it on to my amp and 5 disc carousel CD player.  And the first song I put on was Tevin Campbell's Can We Talk.  Obviously I wanna test how good the speaker was and I think I over did it.  The Japanese tenant above my apartment came knocking on my door and said that my music was too loud. OOppss sorry mamasan,...won't happened again.
