I came across this video last Tuesday and never seen this version before. All I knew this song was sang by Kenny Rogers. That was it. It was just a song and never felt any specific emotion until now. The version here by both Kenny and Lionel was awesome.
I love the relationship they showed on stage here. They had so much fun and the closeness they have looks so genuine. I was touched the bond they had towards each other. The song was written by Lionel Ritchie and recorded by Kenny Rogers in his Greatest Hits album which was released in 1980. However sometime in 1998 Lionel sang the same song in an album released that year.
It has been a while that I have not updated any posting here.
Someone asked me why? Well, it is not something I can just chose and pick a song and write up about it. Most of the songs here meant something to me like....it reminded me of a place or things that happened to me sometime in my life. Of course I have dozens of favorite songs but when writing you just cannot force yourself or squeeze ideas out of your brain. The idea has to fall naturally.
Anyway, here something short for today. I have been contemplating to post this and I finally I decided sure why not....
After my A1 french exam, I have been struggling with A2. It is not that easy learning a third language and I am crawling like a baby.....Within a year we had 3 french teacher, one after the other and it is difficult to adapt to their style. I learned to skip classes giving excuse like too busy with work and had a deadline.
In order to work on pronunciation I decided to buy a CD with French songs and listen in the car when I drive to and back from work, daily. Yes, I did get some pointers from the songs and I listen more and more French songs on You Tube. That was how I discovered Dalida.
Dalida was an Italian Egyptian singer and actress. She started her singing career in 1956 until 1986 a few months before her tragic death. She has performed and recorded in 10 different languages. Dalida was crowned Miss Egypt in 1954 and that got the attention of a French director and made her move to Paris permanent.
She was a bomb. Hits after hits and she was ranked one of the top 6 singers in the world during her prime time even though her songs did not penetrate UK and US markets. Her sales figure today would amount to 170 million albums worldwide.
In the mid-60s Dalida would only sing songs with profound lyrics and has more meaning to her.

Yes, it brought me to tears,... a little only. I felt in a way this song was perfectly written for me. With all that has been going around me,...I hope I haven't let anyone down. Sometimes when you are in a 'situation' you need to escape from reality. Sure every woman has their fantasy but I am living in my fantasy. As we age we see things in another perspective, so do I. I guess I dig my own hole, and I might as well keep digging until .....I find my light at the end of the tunnel.
So when I am in a 'situation' the first song catches my ear normally gives an impact in me ....hence this song. Not all songs can give you that 'Umph!'. You can say, crap, she just living in a La La Land.....but truth hurts....ask yourself. Look yourself in the mirror. For example, the moment you meet someone you change to suit them....but why? Can't we just be ourselves? Of course, we have good qualities as well as flaws,...that makes us human. If we were perfect all the time, than everybody is God!
I might as well sing to Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive but it has become every women theme song. The champion of song to all women around the world. I intend not to be a copy cat. I am different. This songs brings back memories during my school years in Penang. My dad had an acquaintance who was working in Jakarta, Uncle Wong. He runs a hotel business there and he would travel to Penang to visit his daughter who was studying in USM, Helen was her name. Uncle Wong requested my dad to check on Helen on and off and to see if she was doing fine while he was away.
Each time he comes back to Penang he will bring so many gifts for all of us such as cuddly soft toys, Indonesian Batik materials, table cloths and cassettes of Indonesia artists. That is when I learned about Vina Panduwinata. I simply love this song. It is short with simple lyrics.

The relationship between Uncle Wong's family and ours became stronger after a mishap happened to Helen. She was in a motorcycle accident and broke the bone in her thigh. She was hospitalized for a month and had metals sticking out of her thigh after the surgery. We would visit her in the hospital occasionally and soon after her recovery she continued with her studies.
The cassettes brought from Indonesia were very precious to me...I would sing along to most songs and especially Cinta. Who was Vina, I couldn't less at the time but the songs really shot me directly to my heart.
Faizal was discovered from our local reality program called, One In A Million. He started his singing career in a religious singing group Mirwana. The sudden shift to the rock scene shock some people but his transformation showed that he had the package to project his talent in the local market music industry.
I think he's cute hihihi....there you go. I love this song very much. On and off I would listen to it just because I missed his voice.

He is educated, speaks English fluently, has the looks, he plays musical instruments...INSTRUMENTS yeah I repeat, he sings, good looking,..hmmmm didn't I had that earlier, ......
Whenever I listen to his manly voice, raises the short hair behind my neck...kikikikik....betul. Sorryla syok sendiri sekejap,....but in my opinion I like when he sings melancholic songs. His tone of voice governs what his lyrics say in writing, and how he says it – the
content and style of textual communications, in any setting and in any
medium. He is also a lyricist. His singing voice perceived as having certain identifying qualities or characteristics. To me it is very therapeutic. Some of his qualities include his vocal range, vocal weight and vocal transition points such as breaks and lifts within his voice. Just listen to this song and you know what I mean. The very first time I heard and saw of Pharell when he was in Justin Timberlake's video called Like I Love You. I thought....ghezz, who is this guy keeps tapping his hands on the girls thigh....the way he looks at the girl, phew macam tunggu masa je nak terkam... later part of his Pharell became a singer-songwriter, rapper and record producer.

Frankly speaking I was very skeptical of this guy called Cakra Khan...What Chaka Khan? Yeah I know her...but my sister who introduced me to Cakra Khan said,"No, he's Indonesian and you should listen to this particular song." So I agreed and listened and said, "Ok laaaa....". And I forgot about Cakra Khan.
Until my other half asked me about Cakra Khan last night that I decided to LISTEN to the song recommended by my sister a year ago. Setiap perkataan terakhir dalam bait-bait lagu di ulang guna for the next bait.Okay jugak tu....lain sikit.
How Indonesia can produce such talented artist are beyond my thoughts. As it is, there are hundreds of Indonesian artist flooded our music scenes. Each and everyone of them has individual talent which is uniquely theirs; musical and lyrical. Otherwise they cannot make it long in this fast expanding music industry.
I like Afgan too but his voice is different from Cakra Khan. I love Once ex-Dewa. His voice also gives me the goosebumps. I can give you many other examples of Indonesian artist who are uniquely different one from another....Judika, Tompi, Malliq,...on and on and on...
Not much history of this pure Indonesian looking guy which I came across in Wiki. Cakra Konta Paryaman whose stage name is Cakra Khan was born on 27 February 1992. He started his music career 2 years ago with the release of this song and both became an instant hit.
But bila dengar lagu dia ni ( I belum nak dengar lagu dia yang lain because don't want to spoil the mood), with his raspy voice ranged to perfection blended well with the melody. Yes, I understand why my sister recommended me to listen to Cakra Khan. She knows my taste..always looking for originality in a song. Memang lagu-lagu dari Indonesia ni sangat lain and every time they will come up with better music arrangements. They evolve and they get better....that's what I call talent. Everyone of us have talent but it's how you bring it out....time? money? opportunity? hard work? Yes, I admit memang I suka lagu-lagu Indonesia sebab melodynya bersesuaian dengan kehendak I masa ini. I am a very sensitive person in the inside just like their lyrics. I look strong on the outside just as strong as their melody. I have been saving this for a while and now I am sharing my #1 favorite Indonesian artist with you. Maliq & d'Essential is a jazz and soul musician/band from Jakarta, Indonesia. They combined both english and bahasa indonesian in most of their songs.
This band/group was introduced to me by a friend 6 years ago and their songs are the only song I listen in my car. You ride with me, you ride along with Maliq and d'Essentials. I do not play other songs unless my other half said he wants to listen to another artist.
I collected most of their CDs during my trips to Bali and Bandung but still could not get hold of their first album, simply titled as '1st'. The name MALIQ itself is an acronym from Music And Live Instrument Quality. They have performed in Penang, Malaysia during an International Jazz Festival and a RM98 ticket a piece for a free standing concert in Kuala Lumpur...Haih, free standing? Akak dah tak larat nak terkinja-kinja menari....at this age I am more of a lazy listener. Lepak kat pub ke kat bar...minum cocktail ke, coffee ke while listening to Maliq live. Bila tu,...entah lah.
One thing I
notice from each of Maliq's performance, they always put more
twists and explore their music. The older the song, the better
improvisation they do in their performance. That's a sign of a great
band and great performer.

This piece of song I discovered in her book, 13 jam A380.Simply love the book and the song. I have never heard of Caro Emerald before this book and her songs are mostly jazz. She is a Dutch and this song was the most played song in The Netherlands in 2010.

Sheikh Abdullah Ahmad Bahkbereh was born in 1950 known as Dato' Shake came from a family with musical background. He travelled to London in 1973 to expand his musical career, before settling down in Paris, France to try his luck of becoming an artist. He later secure a label and "Tu sais je t'aime" (You know I love you) was his first single release. Noted as the first Asian singer who sings in French.

Who cannot forgave his drug addiction episodes? Who cannot forgave and forget his naked stunt at Jalan Parliament? I forgave him and whole of Malaysia forgave him repeatedly. He repent. We embraced him.
Jamal Abdillah who was discovered from a local musical talent program, Bintang RTM 1979. He came out as the champion when he performed Alleycats, Senandung Semalam. He was confident throughout his performance and everyone knew he would win the moment he fell on his knee coming into the chorus of the song...than the rest is history.
I like Jamal and I have acknowledged his powerful voice which never failed him in every performances. I forget his past whenever I listen to him singing. He has an aura that is quite difficult to explain in simple English.....something like a tingling sensation that gives you the goosebumps....sort off. Ha Ha Ha! Jamal is in his own class.
Penghujung Rindu has no impact what so ever on me. This my favourite among Jamal's songs. I just loved how the lyrics compliment the music. Kena sesangat. How every words came out so organized, one at the time. Memang betul2 feeling bila dengar lagu ni.

Jamal plays the guitar but in 2006 at Istana Budaya he revealed his talent when he sang Seniman Manangis on the piano. Sadly to say, it was also at the highlight of his drug addictions. He looks like a living skeleton, sweating profusely and as though he was going to slip from the piano stool. Out of tune on several occasion but nevertheless, he gave a commendable performance. An entertainer is never afraid to learn new things. Even the audience in the video clip tolerated the off key tune.

Being the youngest of the Gibbs, he has always looked up to his brothers especially Barry, who natured Andy into becoming an artist in his own right. A high school dropout at the age of fifteen he decided to pursue his
love for music.
Andy was independent financially. Some said he lived well because of his brothers. He was energetic, hardworking and of course talented. He put 110% in everything he did. Three singles from his first album went to #1 in Music Billboard. But much later he had doubts and felt insecure thinking that his brothers influence his success.
Kadang-kadang kalau kita tak bersyukur dengan pemberian Allah, macam tu la jadinya. Andy sepatutnya berterima kasih to Barry who created the path for his success. So what? He should be grateful that he had the Bee Gee to back him up. There is nothing wrong for Andy to accept the reality that the success of his three brothers contributed to his own celebrity status.
Married at 18 and successful at an early age brought toll to Andy's career when drugs became his silent partner. I may not understand the level of stress these artist fell into, but sure hell must have been extreme at certain point in their lives. But when things crash and fall apart,....he crumbled. Depression hits him. Picking up back pieces was tough but Andy gave his shots. His mental weakness was what killed him.
The most memorable song that I first relate to Andy Gibb was Shadow Dancing. It was from his second album. Other hits includes Love is thicker than water, I just want to be your everything, and An everlasting love.
It was reported that in the late 80s Andy was free of cocaine but his depression remained. Quoting Robin Gibb, " paranoia associated with cocaine abuse shattered Andy's confidence and he became scared of people.".

Not every artist can command such a performance from an audience. Lara Fabien I salute you. Moment like this is the pinacle or the highlight in a career of an artist. If it was planned, they did it really well to manupulate and fool us, the You Tube viewers. Fortunately this is not an act. When you have the whole audience singing to your song, the entire song, while you acted as the back-up vocals, its unbelievable. I suka sangat tengok video clip ni. Alice Frendenham was a contestant in British Got Talent. She failed in her first attempt when her performance did not make any of the coach/mentor turn their seats in The Voice British version. Indeed in my opinion she did not rock the stage. She left that sense of...wanting more.
The transformation when she auditioned for British Got Talent showed off her raw talent. One word I could think off, is S U L T R Y. It gave me the goose bumps when I listened the melancholic soulfulness in her voice. Jazzy and I like. Just mesmerizing. Even though she did not make it to the finals, this is the kind of CD I will not hesitate to buy. It's a performance that one will not forget for a long time.I have nothing more to say. The judges said them all!!

Wanna promote a local artist. He has cut 2 singles, Berdua and later followed by Sally. Both songs have strong Indonesian music flavor. I was indeed surprised when I found out, the tall, GQ looking guy is a Malaysian. Alvin is also a TV host, emcee, deejay, voice-over talent, and can now add singer to his list of accomplishments. He sure is em em em looking.....hehehe.
